Overview:

MUA is seeking an energetic and dynamic Account Executive with a strong marketing and underwriting background in personal lines and/or commercial short-term insurance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building, managing, and growing profitable business relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and other stakeholders. This role focuses on driving marketing and sales efforts, ensuring alignment between brokers and MUA’s strategic goals, and ultimately contributing to the company’s profitability and growth.

The Account Executive will act as a key brand ambassador, promoting MUA’s products and services, while ensuring excellent customer service and relationship management.

This position will be based in Gauteng and will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Marketing:

  • Market MUA’s personal and commercial lines products effectively to brokers and intermediaries, identifying innovative methods to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Identify and action new broker acquisitions, as well as manage dormant brokers to drive active engagement and growth.
  • Deliver optimal customer experience and ensure high levels of service quality to brokers and their clients.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure continuous alignment between MUA and broker strategic goals.
  • Provide product and policy training to broker staff as needed, ensuring deep product knowledge.

Broker Relationship Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with new and existing brokers, ensuring growth, retention, and profitability of the portfolio.
  • Direct and assume responsibility for driving production and maintenance of business from brokers and intermediaries, ensuring alignment with MUA’s strategic objectives.
  • Actively promote MUA’s products and services, ensuring brokers have a detailed understanding of business rules, targets, goals, and available products.
  • Identify and drive broker/intermediary sales opportunities, ensuring positive relationships and excellent service delivery.
  • Manage allocated broker portfolio to achieve performance targets in line with MUA’s business strategy, focusing on both growth and profitability.

Business Growth and Development:

  • Contribute to the profitable growth of MUA by driving sales initiatives, negotiating new business and renewals, where required.
  • Ensure brokers understand their growth targets and are equipped with the tools and knowledge to achieve them.
    Identify and resolve broker/customer queries and complaints, ensuring swift and satisfactory resolutions.
  • Leverage business tools such as Abacus, SharePoint, and Power BI to track and manage sales performance, profitability, and broker engagement.
  • Collaborate with the accounts department for broker scheme audits.

Operational and Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit reports and feedback on broker growth, profitability, and overall performance to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines and assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Participate in broker entertainment and industry-related functions or forums to strengthen relationships and keep abreast of market conditions and trends.
  • Display a deep understanding of MUA’s business offerings, including UMAs and specialist insurance, and promote them effectively in the market.

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Sales and Marketing Acumen: Proven experience in sales and marketing within the short-term insurance industry, with a focus on personal and commercial lines.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop strong and meaningful relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders to drive growth and business success.
  • Underwriting Knowledge: Strong personal lines underwriting background, with the ability to complete quotes and negotiate business opportunities.
  • Customer Focus: Proactively develop and maintain customer relationships, making efforts to listen, understand, and anticipate their needs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to brokers and negotiate effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve complex queries (underwriting and claims) and address broker concerns in a timely manner.
  • Team Player: A collaborative individual who encourages open communication, supports team goals, and contributes positively to a team environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and open to change, able to remain calm and productive under pressure.
    Technically Proficient: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power BI, and other relevant business tools.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Insurance/Industry qualification
  • FAIS-compliant and registered in the last 5 years as a representative (without supervision) with the FSCA for Short-Term Personal and Commercial lines.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on personal lines underwriting and broker relationship management.
  • Experience in sales and marketing within the financial services industry.
  • Experience managing broker accounts and achieving sales targets.
  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly within Gauteng and surrounding areas are essential for this role.

Additional Information: The candidate must ensure compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements, maintaining a fit and proper status according to FAIS Act guidelines. As a registered Financial Services Provider, it is essential that the candidate holds the necessary qualifications and certifications and remains competent at all times.
