Compliance Manager

Purpose of the position:

Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the financial services industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing FAIS compliance within the business and ensuring timeous reporting to the regulatory authority/ies
  • Developing, maintaining, and reviewing policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Development and implementation of compliance risk management plans
  • Pro-actively identifying existing and potential control deficiencies and exposures from ongoing monitoring reviews
  • Acting as an independent reviewer to ensure the timeous escalation and resolution of compliance related risks or concerns
  • Providing guidance to business on the avoidance / mitigation of potential compliance risks and implementation of remedial action plans
  • Maintaining expert knowledge on applicable laws and regulations, including relevant amendments thereto
  • Propose and implement compliance management awareness programmes
  • Promoting a positive compliance culture that emphasises and demonstrates the importance of policies, procedures and internal controls by pointing out the implications of non-compliance
  • Developing, leading and/or participating in staff compliance training
  • Dealing with regulatory authorities / matters as and when required, including:
    • the submission of regulatory returns and information requests
    • dealing with enquiries, onsite inspections and audits, as well as regular engagement meetings
  • Reporting to the Head of Compliance and providing accurate reports and ad hoc legal opinions

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a compliance management position with in-depth knowledge of the non-life insurance industry and applicable legislation (Insurance Act, Short-term Insurance Act, FAIS Act, POPIA)
  • A relevant legal / compliance qualification
  • RE1
  • RE5 advantageous
  • Licensed compliance officer advantageous

Duties

Job
Work in this job family stream is concerned with managing commercial risk by providing specialist technical underwriting advice. COE is a highly technical role with strong client focus.
