Be responsible for the assessment of recover-ability of claims in terms of the policy and all administration of marine insurance claims (cargo and hull). You will be expected to have a good knowledge of marine insurance, shipping documentation, Incoterms, be familiar with the various types of transportation of cargo (ship, rail, air, road etc.) and the risks associated therewith.
The ability to validate claims against the policy including checking for any potential fraudulent activity. A sound geographical knowledge would be beneficial
- Acknowledge claims within the time frame defined by our SLA’s
- Request relevant information and documentation
- Appointment of Surveyor (if required)
- Validate recoverability of claims in terms of the policy
- Make recommendations to Management and comment on claims
- Adjust claim calculation in terms of the policy
- Manage claims diary
- Manage claim recoveries
- Prepare claims stats for Management meetings
- Understand and be able to apply Vat Rules in respect of claims
- Understand and be able to apply policy excess/deductible
- Understand and decipher contractual obligations and responsibilities in respect of various parties relative to a claim
- Handle all claims matters from start to finish
The following requirements in short term insurance apply:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- RE5 and NQF4 (150 credits) compulsory.
- Bilingual in Afrikaans and English. Xhosa will be beneficial.
- Good communication and telephonic client liaison.
- Computer literate.

The Broker Consultant function is a key part of what differentiates CIA from our competitors.The most important function of the Broker Consultant “BC” is to represent CIA to our Brokers. This entails developing a long-term relationship with the brokers based on trust and transparency. The BC must be able to confidently resolve technical queries and complaints with the utmost professionalism and without always having to refer back to management.
Besides being an excellent communicator, a CIA Broker Consultant must have:
- a comprehensive understanding of our product wordings,
- a detailed knowledge of our underwriting and rating procedures and
know how we pay claims and what we don’t pay for.
More specifically, the BC is responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining good relationships with new and existing brokers through visits and feedback at agreed intervals to ensure brokers getting the market leading service from CIA they have come to expect.
- Establish the broker’s needs and ensure that these needs are met as far as possible and that all problems if any are resolved timeously.
- Sourcing and on-boarding of new brokers within the delegated area.
- Monthly visitation reporting on Grail and ABC Report.
- GPS petrol log submissions on a weekly basis.
- Accurate GPS reporting – exact plotting point of visits
- Effective time management and planning of visits (office bound on Fridays and for Renewal preparation)
