The minimum experience being 3 years, preferably living in the vicinity of the brokerage and with the following minimum requirements:

·         NQF 4 (150 Credits) in short term insurance is essential minimum.

·         Bilingual in English and Afrikaans.

·         RE5 essential.

·         Computer Literate – proficient in Microsoft products and Outlook.

The candidate will be responsible for all relevant tasks related to client services in a short term insurance practice, including but not limited to:

·         Issuing new policies.

·         Renewals.

·         Endorsements.

·         New business quotations.

·         Negotiating renewal terms and preparing documentation.

·         Checking policies prior to sending to clients.

·         Negotiate claims settlement.

·         Telephonic client liaison and queries.

Group Compliance Practitioner

 

 

Purpose of the Role:

The Legal Expenses Insurance Southern Africa Group seeks to employ a Compliance Practitioner who will play a key role in assisting the Group Compliance Manager to enhance and maintain the compliance strategies and processes, as well as a culture of ethics and compliance, across the Group.

You will be responsible for:

Compliance

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining compliance risk management plans
  • Documenting, planning and performing monitoring around key compliance risks identified
  • Preparing reports based on monitoring concluded
  • Meeting with managers to discuss identified areas of non-compliance
  • Developing / updating policies, processes, controls and relevant compliance documents in respect of material compliance obligations
  • Conducting assessments of the compliance policies and processes
  • Reviewing / updating compliance training materials
  • Addressing ad hoc compliance queries from the business
  • Regular monitoring of the primary legislation impacting the business, including wider legislative, regulatory, company and industry standards
  • Maintaining awareness of regulatory developments and communicate relevant developments to the Group Compliance team, and relevant forums / employees
  • Performing compliance research on applicable topics
  • Assisting with ad hoc tasks as and when required

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • LLB / CISA Compliance Practitioner certification (C.Prac) or studying towards C.Prac
  • Good understanding of compliance best practice and guidance
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the practical application of relevant laws and regulations
  • Experience in dealing with compliance issues similar to those applicable to the Group
  • Solid understanding of compliance best practice and guidance, especially compliance monitoring
  • Being familiar with the following legislation:
    • Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act,
    • Short Term Insurance Act,
    • Long Term Insurance Act,
    • Protection of Personal Information Act, and
    • Financial Intelligence Centre Act
  • Knowledge of SADC jurisdictions advantageous
  • Experience of liaising with regulators (preferably FSB) would be an advantage
  • Audit experience would be an advantage
  • 3+ years of Compliance experience and / or internal audit experience would be an advantage
  • 3+ years experience in the financial services sector / insurance industry would be an advantage

Picara is a short term broker specialising in professional indemnity insurance.

The successful applicant would require the following:

  1. Passed the relevant RE5 exams and have 60 credits @ NQF Level.
  2. Registered as a representative with the FSB for a minimum of 3 years and to have a Fit and Proper standing at the FSB.
  3. A minimum of 3 years broking or underwriting experience in Commercial Lines.
  4. Experience in professional indemnity insurance would be an advantage.
  5. Good administrative skills (this is key).
  6. Good Excel and Word skills.
  7. To be punctual and well spoken.
  8. To be able to communicate in English and Afrikaans.

Need to know:

  1. Our offices are located in Dunkeld, Johannesburg.
  2. Our standard working hours are 8.00am to 4.30pm.
  3. Lunch is from 1.00pm to 1.45pm so as to cater for closing the office one hour early on a Friday.
  4. No pension / retirement funding is provided.
  5. Group life cover is included within your salary package. This includes life, severe illness and income protector cover.
  6. The office closes just before Christmas and opens just after New Year. Compulsory leave would need to be taken. This normally equates to about 6 days.
